FAQ

WHEN DO YOU PARADE?

201(Macclesfield) sqn parade on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9:30pm.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Subscriptions are currently £16 per calendar month.
"Blue Uniforms" are provided with the exception of parade shoes (£20-£30).
Cadets provide their own "greens" uniform - a full set of MTP costs around £80.

ARE CADETS EXPECTED TO JOIN THE MILITARY?

No. Although the Air Cadets receives some funding from the RAF, we are not a recruiting organisation and there is no pressure on cadets to consider a Service career. Some cadets do choose to join the military, but the training provided by the RAFAC is held in high regard by civilian employers too

I DON’T KNOW ANYONE, CAN I JOIN ON MY OWN?

Absolutely. Some cadets join along with friends but many of our cadets join on their own. We are very proud of how friendly and welcoming our cadets are – a key strength of a squadron is how they bond together as a unit.

AT WHAT AGE CAN I JOIN?

From age 12 (must be in year 8 or higher).  Our cadets range from age 12 to 18 (and older) – the activities cater for that range of ages, so older cadets are welcome to join

DOES THE ATC ACCEPT BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS?

Yes, the Air Training Corps is open to both boys and girls. The skills learned are equally useful to both and certainly the grins after the flying events are equally wide.

DO I HAVE TO GO EVERY PARADE NIGHT?

Many of our activities are part of a program of events that tie together – especially the First Class training when a cadet first joins.  So, we prefer if cadets attend all parade nights. But family and school take priority – if you do need to miss a parade night, we do ask that you let us know.
